23andMe, a company that has been previously discussed on this blog, is having a “DNA Day” sale of their flagship kit; the upfront obligation is now reduced to a mere $15 shipping charge (down from $200 + shipping). You’re still obligated for one year of their Personal Genome Service at $9/mo, which is not that bad because it’s a cool service that notifies you when your genetic relatives get sequenced, and sends you updates of new discoveries that are actually related to your genetics. You can also pre-pay for this, instead of getting billed monthly. Bottom line, the whole shebang is now a mere $123 total, but only for the rest of today.
So did I just buy a kit? You bet I did! I’ll update with more information once I get the kit in the mail, but I wanted to get this post up while the deal was still on and relevant.
